IN MEMORY OF BOB PEARSON
PAST COMMANDER OF POST 39
Robert H. Pearson, Jr., 85, of Webster, died Friday, January 1, 2010, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Bob lived all his life in Webster. He was a member and Past Commander of Wilkins-Cloues-Bigelow-Pearson Post 39 American Legion in Warner.
Bob was a World War II veteran, having served with the Sixth Marine Division in the Pacific Theater. He fought in Guam and Okinawa, as well as other conflicts. He was also stationed in Japan near the end of his enlistment.
He served his town as a selectman; police officer; planning board member and town hall building committee member. He also was a volunteer fireman; a fire warden and had been president of the Old Home Day Association. His favorite personal achievement was establishing the Webster Veterans Memorial.
During Memorial Day Services in Warner in May 2007, Post 39 officially added the name “Pearson” to its Charter in recognition and in memory of Bob’s son, Sergeant William R. Pearson, U.S. Air Force Para-Rescueman, who died in the service of his country while attempting to rescue an Air Force Officer who had been shot down near the DMZ in Vietnam in April 1972.
At the Annual Veterans Day Supper in November 2008, Post 39 was delighted and honored to have Bob participate as a speaker on a panel of seven World War II veterans. One could hear a pin drop as Bob related his experiences from the war.
Bob is survived by his wife Elizabeth; 5 children; 12 grand-children; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Committal and services will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Webster Veterans Memorial Fund, 42 Little Hill Road, Webster, NH 03303.
