Why should you belong?
That is what we all ask when it comes to this or any other organization. With everything that we have to do in our lives, why would anyone want to spend their time, monies and energy joining another organization?
Over the last 90-plus years since the American Legion's formation, we have had a major influence on the course of American history. The GI Bill, written and named by Legionnaires, provides education, economic, small business and home ownership assistance to all veterans who qualify.
We also continue to work with our elected officials at all levels of government to restore veteran's benefits and to upgrade those benefits so those who served and their families will be taken care of, just as they were promised.
We also are taking care of our future; our children. We have programs that focus on education, drug awareness, child literacy, scouting, baseball and flag education. There is something for everyone.
We are also supporting our deployed troops and their families through our Family Support Network, Temporary Financial Assistance and The American Legacy Scholarship.
An American Legion Post is, basically, Americans taking care of Americans. As a Legion Member, you will open an unending catalog of opportunities to expand your life and utilize your talents.
At the local level, Post 39 provides support to local area veterans and their families and also to families of our deployed troops. Support is provided in many ways; not only financial support, but assisting in directing and obtaining the best services available to veterans & families. We also provide educational prgrams for school children, patriotic events, US Flags along Main Street during designated dates; road-side clean up; outlying cemetery maintenance; flags & markers for veteran's graves; along with numerous other local area support items.
SPECIAL NOTE: We need additional help to keep Post 39 vibrant and moving forward. We are losing World War II Veterans every day and the Korean War Veterans are getting along in age as well. Even some of the Vietnam War Veterans are suffering from physical problems. We especially need veterans to join us from the First Persian Gulf War and also from the War in Iraq and the War in Afghanistan. It's getting tough for the older veterans to march and carry flags and rifles on Memorial Day and for Funeral Services for Departed Veterans. WE NEED HELP !!

Thank you, Charles Trowbridge, Commander, Post 39
